How ist the technological function?

Take any organic matter like straw, hay, reed, wood, branches,  twigs,  leafs and put it into the OCDC-facility.

There is a indirect heated rotary kiln, where the biomass is pyrolysed.

The pyrolysis gas goes through well insolated pipes and a hotgas burner into a boiler.

The enmerging heat can be used for  heating  and/or for power generation.

60%  of the energy bound in the biomass can be used this way.
40%  oft he energy remain in the biochar (pyrolisis coke) which has a very high value of corbon content.

The biochar with it´s high calorific value of ~ 29 MJ/kg (8kWh/kg) can  be burned and used to generate energy.

It can be used for soil improvement in garden, field and grassland.

Since the biochar does almost not react with oxygen anymore, it is a long lasting carbon sink.

If the biochar is mixed with agriculturell manure from chicken, pigs, cows etc., it will be enriched with fertilizer and is a able to build new layers of humus – also called Terra Preta.

It is recommendable to spread out the biochar already in the barn, so it can bind the ammonia gas right there and improve the barn climate.

In particular the corrosive effect oft he barn air will be reduced significantly.

Explanation of Terra Preta
Terra preta a  very dark, fertile soil found in the Amazon Basin  and was made by adding a mixture of charcoal, bone, and manure to the otherwise relatively infertile Amazonian soil, and stays there for thousands of years.

Terra preta is characterized by very high charcoal content; of high quantities of pottery sherds; of organic matter such as plant residues, animal feces, fish and animal bones and other organic material.

It also shows high levels of microorganic activities and other specific characteristics within its particular ecossstem. It is less prone to nutrient leaching, which is a major problem in most rain forests.

An absolut new aspect of Terra preta is it´s function of Carbon Capture.
